Summary: If Joyce hadn't seen Buffy's costume, she never would have asked her daughter to take her to Ethan's and select one for herself.

"Wow, Joyce, you look fabulous."

Joyce blushed at the compliment and the look the Gallery owner gave her. It had been so long since a man had paid attention to her, she didn't know what to do with herself. To be honest, she felt a little embarrassed. She wasn't sure her Halloween costume was entirely appropriate for the Gallery's Halloween party. Joyce was showing a little more skin than she was used to, but she had to admit that the costume was perfectly suited to the Egyptian themed party.

"Oh I have to agree," Megan, one of the Gallery's biggest clients, agreed. "You look beautiful."

She blushed again and wished she hadn't let Buffy talk her into buying this costume. In fact, the entire outfit was her daughter's fault. If Joyce hadn't seen Buffy's costume, she never would have asked her daughter to take her to Ethan's and select one for herself.

"So, who are you?"

Joyce adjusted the gold ribbon bracelet on her hand before answering. "Hathor."

Goddess of love and motherhood.

Buffy had thought it was rather fitting.

Joyce wasn't surprised to see them when they arrive almost twenty hours after the police were called (exactly twelve hours after Rupert Giles and a frantic Buffy had come to the police station in an attempt to find out exactly why she had been arrested, and six hours after Joyce had forced Rupert to get her daughter as far from the police station as possible).

The last thing she wanted was for Buffy to be here for this - for any of this. Joyce's memories of the past twenty-four hours were crystal clear and, given what she knew from Hathor, she'd known what happened at the party - and the fact that she used a ribbon device to kill four people - would catch their attention.

And she was right.

They were dressed in civilian clothes, but look exactly the same as they appeared in Hathor's memories. In fact, she felt a well of emotion when she saw Daniel Jackson. Not because Hathor actually cared about him, but because Joyce knew what it was like to be used by Hathor.

Hathor only had control over her for a short while, but the damage the Goa'uld had done during that time would haunt Joyce forever.

"Mrs Summers?" Daniel began, sitting in the chair on the other side of the interrogation table. "My name is Doctor Daniel Jackson. I was wondering if we could talk to you about what happened at the party?"

Joyce noticed that he didn't tell her that he was an archeologist working for the Air Force, but she did notice the Shol'va - Teal'c - whispering in Colonel O'Neill's ear. She wondered if maybe he was telling him that he didn't sense a Goa'uld inside her.

Not that it really mattered what Teal'c was telling the Colonel.

Symbiote or not, Joyce wouldn't be going home for a while.

Day Seven Eight - Accepted! (whoops! Sorry about that!)

This has all sorts of potential and nice use of Joyce. She'd make an interesting addition to the SGC. ;)

Thank you.

I've always toyed with the idea of Joyce in a Halloween costume. It's one of the ideas I never had time to explore and so I'm using this challenge to write all sorts of random plot bunnies.

Ooooo. I wonder how much she'd tell them - and how much they'd believe? They have, after all, seen weirder ... and if an archaeologist can be so central to their mission an art gallery owner should be able to find a place. :)

I know! That's what I love about this idea. Poor Joyce, she's trying to protect her daughter from aliens she now knows exists, but has no idea about magic. There will be a continuation of this some time this month.
