Summary: Rupert knew there were some rules that transcend dimensions.
He was getting too old for this. Truly he was. Rupert Giles was of the firm belief that things like this were supposed to happen to people who didn't have the supernatural knowledge - or the training - that had been drilled into him since he was a teenager. Not him. Oh, he could possibly make allowances for the fact that he was in another dimension and that there were obviously changes in the supernatural rules because of that. However, Rupert knew there were some rules that transcend dimensions.
Such as being cautious when out at night - especially when he knew the dimension he had been cursed to had a high supernatural element.
Although, to be fair, he didn't know all that much about this dimension and he had hardly expected to be attacked by an unnaturally large wolf when it wasn't the night of the full moon. He had been watching for vampires, not wolves.
It was only a slight consolation that he hadn't been too badly hurt and that there had been someone hunting the "rogue wolf", preventing it from finishing its meal. He was grateful for that, at least.
He was less than grateful for the blood covered tooth marks on his leg. If only Federal Marshall Blake had fired her gun a few seconds earlier.
"Are you okay?" Marshall Blake asked as she cleaned the wound. "You're not feeling cold or having difficulty breathing, are you?"
Rupert shook his head. After everything he'd survived, the death and resurrection of his Slayer, the First, apocalypse after apocalypse, he didn't really expect a werewolf bite to send him into shock. If it in fact was a werewolf. The wolf he had seen looked completely different from Oz, so there was a hope that perhaps... "That was a werewolf that bit me, yes?"
Marshall Blake stopped what she was doing and looked at him strangely. "You've never seen a werewolf before?"
Rupert barely resisted the urge to slap himself. Given that the supernatural in this dimension was public knowledge, his question was rather stupid.
"Are you sure you're not going into shock?"
He shook his head. "I lost my glasses for a moment in the, um, attack. I couldn't see clearly." That was only partly true, but she didn't have to know that.
She looked relieved. "Yes, it was a werewolf." She resumed cleaning the bite on his leg. "Do you know what's going to happen now?"
Unfortunately, he was well aware. "I will become a werewolf in the next full moon." It was only when Marshall Blake froze he realised that he had perhaps made another faux pas. He hadn't been here long enough to learn the differences between their dimensions.
"It's likely," she agreed, slowly. "There's a chance that you might not, but wolf lycanthropy is the most infectious of all the strains."
Of course it was and while there was a possibility he could still be human, Rupert, without a doubt, knew that he would turn at the next full moon.
After all, he had been "banished" to this dimention, by the grieving mate of a demon he had help kill, as punishment, a curse.
And what was lycanthropy, if not a curse?
